Commonwealth Supported Places - A National Priority
As part of the Federal Governments' focus on education, Master of Science subjects in science, and mathematics and statistics have been reduced
to $4162 (AUD) for a year of full-time study. This is a reduction from $7000 in 2008.
For students entering the program in 2009, the approximate HECS debt for the two years Master of Science will be $8324, or approximately
$6658 with the 20% Up-front discount to eligible local applicants.
In addition, the University of Melbourne will be offering over 200 Commonwealth Supported Places into the Master of Science
for 2009, indicating it is an excellent time to study science at the University of Melbourne.
Awards, prizes & scholarships
The Melbourne Graduate School of Science offers a range of prizes and awards across graduate
programs and disciplines to Australian and international students. These awards and prizes provide support
for living costs, research, travel, local and international conference attendance and periods of overseas study.
Some funds such as the 'David Hay Memorial Fund' provide financial assistance for writing thesis and publication of
work in journals.
There are a number of scholarships available for students undertaking research programs.
Financial support
The Melbourne Graduate School of Science is proud to offer a number of bursaries of $5000 (AUD)
to students from the majority of streams and tagged Master of Science programs in 2009. These will be
one-off payments, and will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. All applicants - local and international
- will be considered. No separate application form is required, although students wishing to be considered
must submit their application by the deadline of November 28th, 2008. Bursary recipients will be notified in
the week prior to Christmas, 2008.
