Master of Science - Geography*
Geography at Melbourne is among the top ranking programs of its kind in Australia and

Course structure
Core discipline subjects
(50 points)
Students must undertake Advanced Reading in Geography.
A further three subjects must be selected from:
Elective discipline subjects
(25 Points)
Students must undertake two elective subjects from the list below:
- Global Environment and Sustainability
- Fundamentals of GIS
- Environmental Risk Assessment
- Environmental Sampling and Analysis
- Climate Affairs
Professional Tools
(25 Points)
Students must take one or two Professional Tools subjects from the following list:
Research project
(100 points)
Students will gain research experience in Geography by completing a thesis
(100%, with a word limit of 23000).
This stream of Master of Science is designed for students to develop advanced
skills in carrying out independent and sustained research in Geography. The
thesis should demonstrate a critical application of specialist knowledge and make
an independent contribution to existing scholarship in the area of research.
Delivery mode and duration
This is a 2 year full-time only course. All program subjects are delivered on-campus (Parkville).
Entry requirements
A bachelor degree with a major in an appropriate discipline with at least an H3 (65%) in the major,
or equivalent.
