Staff Profiles
Students will have exciting opportunities to contribute to the scientific discovery process through interaction with
world-class research groups and international research leaders. The Graduate School is partner in over 30 competitively-funded
research centres in addition to our own University-based groups.
- Professor David Karoly is a climate specialist in the School of Earth Sciences. David is a member of the United
Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was recently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize along
with Al Gore.
- The Holmes Group, led by Professor Andrew Holmes, collaborates with Imperial College in London on research into
light-emitting polymers, porphyrazines and organic solar cells.
- Researchers in our School of Physics are collectively the most cited Australian physicists in the world
- Professor Geoff McFadden and his team, having discovered that Malaria is a plant-like organism, are looking for a cure.
Professor Geoff McFadden
...having the time to talk over a scientific mystery and how to solve it is a delightful part of our work.
Professor Carl Schiesser
...there are so many inspirational individuals who have helped shaped the world as we know it.
Nelson Mandela for sticking to his convictions...Lawrence Bragg...for receiving a Nobel Prize at the
age of 25! (Edwin Hubble was pretty cool too!).
Professor Ary Hoffmann
The greatest lesson science has taught me is that scientific approaches can be used to develop creative
solutions to many problems facing humanity but you still need political solutions to implement them!
